STATEMENT:
A bit of missing limb, a turned away face, a body eroding to mirror the landscape, Sarah Marie's latest installation, 2500 Minutes, is a series of women as the world sees them – not whole. Posed in stances of vulnerability and hidden expression, the viewer is invited to use the subject’s body language to step into the world of women expected to be everything and left feeling lacking when they cannot. From that perspective they are encouraged to see the disparity between the expectation of female perfection and the reality of being human. The series is a gentle and heartfelt reminder to acknowledge the complexity of a woman in all her life roles.
All pieces are created with red and black India ink on watercolor paper. Sarah's latest pieces and progress are uploaded on Instagram weekly. For art inquiries please email artbysmh@gmail.com.
